We are on social

We couldn’t be happier for PZ Cussons – and credit to the entire project team, delivered by @flexiblebusinessinteriorsltd and designed by Incognito, which included ourselves at JSJ UK – for walking away with the first ever ESG accolade at this year’s @bco_uk Awards!
The awards recognise projects that demonstrate best practice in office design, fit-out, operation and sustainability – and PZ Cussons’ Global HQ at Manchester Business Park delivers exactly that.
Completed in 12 months, from first meeting to handover, the immersive brand-led workspace demonstrates how complex user engagement can be translated into a creative, future-proofed design, delivered in a way that is respectful to the external envelope of the building, the ongoing operations of a global business, the environment, and the budget.
Employee wellbeing sits at its heart, designed to encourage staff to come together whilst giving individuals complete control over their workspace.
The judges praised the project’s circular approach, which saw us focus on retaining and repurposing as much of the original fit-out as possible.
This project truly sets the standard for sustainable excellence!

Bespoke joinery exudes quality and facilitates the truly unique aspects of design expected in high-end commercial spaces.By commissioning bespoke joinery for your project, you have access to many different materials, innovative design concepts, and a beautiful finish that gives a high-end commercial space the eminence and character it needs. In August 2022, JSJ UK completed a bespoke joinery project for Autocab, Manchester, working alongside ADT Workspace who acted as the main contractor. Our role was to provide the specialist joinery knowledge and expertise to fully realise ADT Workspace’s vision for their client. We designed, manufactured, and installed a stunning feature staircase, which sat imposingly in the middle of the office space. The vision was to create a staircase that could be also utilised safely as a seating area. From an empty space, our team designed a staircase ensuring it enhanced the rest of the office interior. Our technical designers had to ensure it was designed in a way to support the various load bearings it would face. Then we had to transport it to the site, and considering their offices are on the 15th and 16th floors, we had to consider this from the design’s origin.Image ref.

According to research from consulting firm Deloitte's recent London office survey, demand for office space is expected to fall by 10%.That doesn't mean the office as we know it will be obsolete. It just means employers are increasingly looking for the best of the best when they are in the office. With hybrid working becoming more popular, the office should be viewed as a destination for employers, drawing them in when they are not working from home.According to Deloitte's leasing data, "tenants are increasingly seeking better-quality office space with higher sustainability and wellness ratings."Many businesses redesigned their interiors when we returned to work to improve worker safety and happiness. And it has stayed, and for good reason. We have worked on several projects focusing on well-being and sustainability, resulting in fantastic workplace design and demonstrating just how important it is for the office to remain competitive.https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/buildings/demand-for-london-office-space-expected-to-fall-by-10-21-11-2022/

5 Office design trends to look out for in 20231. Adaptability and diversityIn 2023, adaptable office spaces will be popular. Workers will be free to roam the office as needed to adapt to changing demands throughout the day.Zoom booths, open-plan desks, neurodiverse spaces, comfy sofa workspaces, brainstorming areas, and even areas for employees to socialise and relax will be expected.2. Sustainable approachBusinesses now prioritise sustainability, so where you source materials when building or renovating workplaces is critical.Rather than purchasing low-cost, low-quality goods on a regular basis, employers are looking for items for their workplace that are environmentally friendly, will last longer, and that their employees will be proud of.3. Technology and NetworkingThe staff will be seeking specific features like intelligent office control, flexible workspace technology, and smart presentation technologies that would improve their experience when in the office.4. Feature wallsFeature walls and statement art pieces are excellent for igniting energy and creativity in the workplace and giving individual spaces a unique identity.5. Industrial and biophilic designWide windows, a variety of robust lighting fixtures, and exposed materials such as pipes, bricks, metals, and wood are key elements of this design trend. All of the senses are included in multisensory biophilic design.Natural light, purifying biophilic walls, and nature-inspired sensory spaces will improve employee wellbeing while complementing and invoking all of the senses.Image ref.

Workplaces must be purposefully and thoughtfully designed to support neurodiversity. Why?Your employees will not all perceive or respond to their surroundings in the same way. We've noticed that our clients' layouts and designs reflect their efforts to make the workplace more accepting and inclusive. That's fantastic, but there's still more that could be done.Although many may not be aware of it or may not have been diagnosed, between 30% and 40% of the population may be neurodiverse. To help create a comfortable working environment for everyone, office design should provide employees with a variety of spaces.A welcoming environment can be enhanced by sound, colour, texture, and even smell.Sensory spaces are critical for people who are neurodivergent. Small spaces for solitude and refuge, as well as compact soft seating areas, allow for relaxed levels of interaction and socialisation.Colour is an essential factor to consider. Neutral colours can help create a more relaxing atmosphere while avoiding clashing colours. The activity and commotion of an open-plan office may be distracting for people who require a more calm atmosphere to produce their best work.Every employee has the potential to succeed in a neurodiverse workplace.
