Project: Health club transformation, Luton

We were appointed by one of our long-standing clients to deliver a fast-track transformation of a Luton gym, turning an ageing health club into a modern, high quality gym environment while remaining fully operational throughout. Our expertise in bespoke joinery and fit out was a key factor in delivering a refurbishment of this scale and complexity within a live setting.

Our programme spanned several key areas of the club, with overhauls of the reception, main gym, club lounge, pool area, and multiple fitness studios including the Pilates, Spin, and  High Energy Room, completed on time over a 10 week period.

In line with the client’s sustainability goals, we re-cladded the original 20-year-old bar and reception desk to extend their lifespan, reduce waste, and deliver a high-end finish. In the club lounge, we created a stylish, multifunctional space with in-house manufactured planters, fitted furniture, and a bespoke media wall, offering members a relaxed setting to socialise, unwind, or work away from the gym floor. We also crafted and installed tailored shelving outside each studio, providing convenient access to towels and equipment for members.

Despite the scale of the refurbishment, the club remained fully operational from 6am to 10pm on weekdays and until 8pm on weekends. This demanded a flexible, well-coordinated approach, with safety and member experience at the forefront of everything we did. The reception and bar operated on a staggered closure schedule to maintain service throughout the programme.

Weekly site visits from the client and end users ensured continuous feedback and alignment, contributing to a smooth delivery on time, within budget and to the usual high standard that is expected of our award-winning team.

This marks our fourth project with the leading health and fitness operator, following successful schemes in Hamburg, Gloucester and Southend. We’re currently completing another exciting scheme in Southampton in partnership with the same client, with further works in the pipeline.
