Manchester based workplace design, build and delivery specialists, ADT Workplace, commissioned JSJ UK to design, manufacture and install a range of bespoke joinery including a stunning, bespoke feature staircase, for their client, Autocab.

Autocab is a market leader in taxi dispatch software. The company began as a family-run business in 1989 and now has a team of 140 people and a global customer base. Its new Manchester office is located over two floors. The brief was to create an industrial style, vibrant, agile and flexible workspace that reflects the company’s vision, values and family culture.

As a leading technology firm, the overall required design for the workspace was contemporary, fresh, open plan and interactive with meeting rooms, social spaces, dining areas, and even a games area!

With the offices being located on the 15^th and 16^th floor, the logistics of moving manufactured items into the building and to their required location had to be considered throughout the project, from initial designs, through to manufacture and install.

The most prominent feature of the entire space is the bespoke staircase, designed in collaboration with ADT Workplace and manufactured by JSJ UK, that is visible across the workplace and links the two floors.

Bespoke feature staircase

The truly unique feature staircase provides a stunning focal point of the open plan, industrial style interior.

For the staircase to be installed the structural slab between the two floors had to be removed and detailed plans made to enable the works to be completed safely.

The staircase features central tiered seating finished in Egger Light Concrete Laminate.  Seat pads were manufactured and upholstered in fabrics carefully chosen to match Autocab’s branding colours.

To each side of the central tiered seating is a lower rise staircase to give access across both floors. The stairs are finished in Egger Natural Halifax Oak Laminate complete with contrasting black stair nosings.

Underneath both sides of the staircase we integrated meeting/social booth areas, with booth seating and tables.

Timeline wall

The bespoke timeline wall is a focal point of the upper floor. Greeting people as they arrive at the top of the staircase, the white timeline wall chronologises the Autocab brand through individual storyboards with striking LED backlighting.

Media walls

Throughout the space we installed bespoke media walls of varying dimensions and specifications. In the lounge area the contemporary black media wall is recessed and covers the full width of the room.

We installed smaller media walls in social spaces, meeting rooms and kitchen areas. All media walls were designed to be in keeping with the style and function of the immediate area.

Feature walls

To give individual spaces a unique identity, we designed bespoke feature walls that bring the area to life by telling the story and culture of the Autocab brand.

Staff kitchen

JSJ UK installed an open plan staff kitchen which comprises of Egger Cashmere Grey cupboard fronts with contrasting Egger Black Pietra Grigia worktop and splashback, and finished with an eye-catching Egger Light Concrete Laminate surround.

Social area, kitchen, bar and games room

For the large kitchen, dining and social area we designed a bespoke, fully equipped kitchen with multiple sinks, cupboards, shelving, refrigeration, cooking facilities and bar area.

The cupboard fronts are Egger Indigo Blue Laminate, which provide a striking contrast with the oak style worktops.

Surrounding the kitchen is a mix of comfortable chairs around coffee tables, three-piece bench seating, and dining tables and chairs. The adjoining games area with a media wall encourages social interaction and creates a relaxed environment.

Quiet room

For the quiet room we designed, manufactured and installed bespoke contemporary worktops for flexible working away from the hustle and bustle of the open plan environment.
