The Wellsprings, Bolton
Project: The Wellsprings
Client: Robertson Construction North West
JSJ UK is proud to have played a key role in the transformation of The Wellsprings in Bolton, revitalising a once-underused office building into an inspiring workspace designed to support the growth of new start-ups.
Now open in the heart of Bolton town centre, The Wellsprings offers a dynamic hub for entrepreneurs and businesses, with flexible, affordable office spaces tailored to support those in the creative and technology sectors.
The project was backed by £6.9 million from the Towns Fund and an additional £1.4 million from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, with renovations commencing in July 2023.
This extensive refurbishment turned the council-owned building, formerly the headquarters of Bolton News, into a modern five-floor workspace offering rentable offices, co-working areas, and collaborative zones.
JSJ UK collaborated closely with Robertson Construction North West, the project’s principal contractor, as well as Bolton Council and strategic partner Clear Futures. Previously, the JSJ UK team successfully partnered with Robertson on the renovation of the nearby Bolton Central Library in 2023, with Robertson selected by Bolton Council for their expertise in high-quality refurbishment projects.
With a commitment to quality at every step, our expert bespoke joinery manufacturing team contributed to the design and implementation of sophisticated office spaces featuring co-working areas, meeting rooms, call pods, and kitchen facilities.
Our work included installing toilet cubicles and IPS units on all floors, using cost-effective and durable materials.
On the ground floor, we incorporated solid oak slats into a welcoming and functional reception desk and café bar, while supplying all café furniture, featuring custom metal-frame seating and an oak veneer gantry, creating an inviting environment for collaboration. We further enhanced the space with bespoke, free-standing planters finished in oak veneer, bringing a natural, cohesive aesthetic to the area.
For the first and second floors, we installed two tea points with modern EGGER laminate finishes, offering employees convenient spaces to refresh and connect.
All elements were manufactured and installed with a rapid turnaround, supporting timely project completion and enabling our client to bring this valuable community resource to life as scheduled.
