New city centre headquarters, Manchester

Project: New city centre headquarters

Client: Incognito

Location: Manchester

Through numerous successful collaborations with Incognito, a renowned interior design firm known for its global clientele and reputation for inspirational, data led environments,  JSJ UK is quickly establishing itself as a go-to expert in bespoke joinery manufacturing for high-end office fit-outs, crafting tailored interiors that elevate workspaces to new levels of sophistication.

Incognito’s summer ’24 move saw them transition from their former Knutsford site to occupy a business suite on the second floor of the Grade II* listed Old Law Library on Manchester’s Kennedy Street, originally built in 1884.

Thanks to its stunning gothic architecture and expansive feature windows, the building is an ideal home for creative businesses. With such tenants including Incognito and Solus Ceramics, it has been comprehensively refurbished by the current landlord and occupiers.

Incognito’s directors had already devised a clear vision for the studio’s new look, which they then entrusted to our expert team to deliver.

Of principal concern was that all elements would be in line with the building’s heritage and the inspiring setting provided by the historic Library, whilst still communicating the design firm’s modern and clean aesthetic.

The project included a bespoke feature joinery screen, sample storage wall and low-level poser planter unit. These pieces would help to delineate purposeful spaces for meetings, presentations and collaborations, but would still enable fluidity between each area.

Our objectives in delivering Incognito’s vision were as follows:

  • Create feature walls dividing the open plan studio into breakout and cosy meeting spaces with dedicated space for an affixed AV screen
  • Oval window shapes in a wicker finish and ample planter units to contribute to a relaxed, organic look and feel
  • Flexible organisation solutions provided by bespoke shelving and a sample wall with removable shelves
  • Acoustic panels to help dampen unwanted noise
  • Incorporating materials such as lacquered MDF, veneer lacquered wood and bespoke painted wicker for a cohesive look, highlighting the natural material where appropriate

Incognito co-founder Simon Millington, said: “The vibrancy within the space makes the studio a really great place to work and will enable us to continue our steady growth plans and unlock the potential in Incognito for years to come.”
